The engine in your Subaru can't burn the fuel and oxygen it needs for power without spark plugs to start the process. How they work starts with turning your key in its ignition lock cylinder. A switch triggers, and many other ignition parts -- everything from your battery and starter motor to a solenoid and an ignition coil -- start working. Together, they send a small electrical charge to the plugs' leads. When that "spark" reaches each, the air and gas inside your engine combust. As the mix burns, it releases power, and your engine pistons and crankshaft get moving, alongside your vehicle's many other parts. Without a good set of factory Subaru spark plugs, though, that car or SUV you love to drive -- it wouldn't start at all. To make things worse, even the best spark plugs go bad eventually. For one, their leads can rust. If they widen too far, weak charges can get even weaker. When bad spark plugs don't cause engine misfires, they can cause complete engine shutdown. Broken spark plugs, however, are a worst-case scenario: they usually cause severe engine cylinder damage. Luckily, those made by Subaru get built to last, for as many as 100,000 miles and millions of ignitions. Just be sure to replace any spark plug as it approaches the mileage limit recommended by your owner's manual. You're probably already asking, "what spark plugs do I need?" That depends on what Subaru model you're driving. Genuine ones will work best. That's because your OEM designs its vehicles and auto parts to work together.
